ODISHA CIVIL SERVICE , One of the most prestigious examination for the state of odisha. OPSC try to conduct each year but due to certain circumstances they are not able to do so. That doesn’t mean we can stop preparing for it. What will be the post and Pay Scale?

Under this service there are 06numbers posts in which 03 numbers posts come under Group – A (Junior Branch ) and another 03 numbers of posts come under Group – B post. All the pay scale is in Pay matrix under Rule -3 of ORSP Rules, 2017.


Group – A

  • 1.Odisha Administrative Service (Junior Branch )/Rs. 56,100/– in Level-12
  • 2.Odisha Police Service ( Junior Branch )/Rs. 56,100/- in Level-12
  • 3.Odisha Finance Service ( Junior Branch )/Rs. 56,100/- in Level-12

Group – B

  • 1.Odisha Co-operative Service ( ARCS/AGCS )/Rs.44,900/- in Level-10
  • 2.Odisha Revenue Service/Rs.44,900/- in Level-10
  • 3.Odisha Taxation & Account Service/Rs.44,900/- in Level-10


  • 1.A candidate must be Citizen of India.
  • 2.Age Upper Limit 32 yrs and Lower limit 21yrs.
  • 3.05 yrs of age relaxation in Upper age for SC/ST/SEBC/Women/Ex-Service Men.
  • 4.10yrs for PWDs whose permanent disabilities is not less than 40%.
  • 5.15yrs for PWDs belongs to SC/ST/SEBC.

Educational Qualifications:

  • 1.Candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree .(+3Arts/Sc/Commerce/BE/B.Tech/BBA/BCA etc )
  • 2.He/She must be able to Read, write and Speak odia Language.

Numbers of attempt:

  • 1.Only 04 Attempts for the Examinations.
  • 2.There is No Such Restrictions for SC/ST candidates.
  • 3.07 attempts for educationally backward class.


  • 1.HSC or Equivalent.
  • 2.Intermediate/+2.
  • 3.Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 4.Any other Higher Qualifications.
  • 5.Odia Test Pass Certificate.
  • 6.Certificates for Reservations ( Caste/Discharge Certificates/Disabilities certificate / Sport Certificates etc).
  • 7.No Objection Certificates for Govt. Employee.

Plan and Conduct of Examinations:

  • 1.Preliminary examinations. (Objective Types- Multiple choice questions)
  • 2.Main Examinations.
  • 3.Personality Test or Interview.

Prelims Examinations

How Prelims Examination works?

Prelims Examinations consist of two papers of objective types ( Multiple choice questions and each paper carrying 200 Marks. those are:

  1. 1.General Studies Paper- I : 200Marks
  2. 2.General studies Paper- II : 200Marks( Qualifying in nature , Only 33% mark required to get evaluate Paper – I.

Note: Marks secured in the Paper -I will help you to get shortlisted for the Main Examinations


Where to Prepare For Prelims Examinations?

For General Studies Paper – II

No need to study for General studies Paper – II in the beginning because it is just qualifying in nature. You need to secure only 33% to get evaluate your General Studies Paper -I. If will not qualify Paper – II, Your Paper – I will not be evaluated. It is also Called CSAT Paper-2.


a.Total Numbers of Questions = 80Nos and each will carry equal marks.


b.25% marks allotted for particular question will be deducted as negative marking for each wrong response.


So when to study for General Studies Paper -II ?

  • -Start preparing for it just before 6 months of the examinations.
  • -If you are good at mathematics , English Grammar , Passage Solving then 2 months is more than sufficient for General Studies paper – II.

-Pervious year question is Enough ( 4 previous year question papers are there , you can download from bellow.

-You can Follow CSAT Paper- 2 By Arihant Publications.


For General Studies Paper – I


It is very important paper to get selected for the Main examinations, More the marks you score will be the more chances of get selected for the main Examinations.


a.Toatal Numbers of questions = 100Nos. each will carry equal marks.


b.25% marks allotted for particular question will be deducted as negative marking for each wrong response.


How to Prepare for General Studies Paper – I?


a. Daily Visit PIB (Press Information Bureau )

b. Daily Read “The Hindu News Paper” ( News for Current Affairs and Editorials for Main Examination ).


c. NCERTs from 6th to 10th of Geography, History, General sciences, Social Sciences, and 9th to 12th of Economics and Political Sciences. You can buy the NCERTs books it will cost you Rs40.00 to Rs. 80.00 each or you can read them free from NCERTs Websites.


d. Please do complete “Vision IAS Monthly Compiler”. You can get free PDF after 1 or 2 months if you will take their subscription you will get end of the each months. For free PDF Click Here.


e. Modern History From Spectrum ( Revised 3-4 times), Ancient and medieval History from 11th and 12th OLD NCERTs.


f. Geography from NCERTs 6th to 12th and Human Geography book by GC Leong ( Very small book)

g. Polity and International Relationship from the book ” Indian Polity” by M. Laxmikant.


h. Economics from the book “The Indian economy” By Sanjiv Varma. Buy Recent Edition else no use of it.

Main Examinations

How Main Examination works?

The Main Examination will consist of written examination and an interview test. Candidates who obtain such minimum qualifying marks in the written part of the Main Examination as may be fixed by the Commission at their discretion, shall be summoned by them for an interview for a Personality Test.

The written examination will consist of the following papers :


Qualifying Papers :

It is of  10th Standard, Qualifying in nature and Not counted for Merit. You have to secure only 33% but have to maintain minimum standard of writing else your Essay paper will not be evaluated even after scoring 33%.

  1. 1.Odia Language (Paper – I)             = 300 Marks.
  2. 2.English Language (Paper – II)       = 300 Marks.


Papers to be counted for merit:


  1. 3.English Essay (Paper -III)              = 200 Marks.
  2. 4.General Studies – I (Paper – IV)   = 300 Marks.
  3. 5.General Studies – II (Paper – V)    = 300 Marks.
  4. TOTAL                                                   = 1400 Marks.



Optional Papers :

 Two subject to be selected from the list of optional subjects. Each Subject will have two papers and each papers will carry 300 Marks.


Optional Paper – VI                 = 300 Marks.

Optional Paper – VII                = 300 Marks.

Optional Paper – VIII               = 300 Marks.

Optional Paper –  IX                 = 300 Marks.

TOTAL                                             = 1200 Marks.


How to Prepare for main Examinations?

-For Odia and English Language NCERTs are More than Sufficient.


For Essay:

There is no such materials for Essay at the end of the day your skill will matters. How you will develop your skill to write a Good Essay?

-Do Read “Yojna Magazine” which come each month you can buy it or read free online. This magazine will enhance your knowldage which you can use in your Essay writing and in your Optional Paper Answer.


-Again “The Hindu” news paper , Basically editorials. It will improve your writing skill of Essay and Optional paper answer.


– Try to update yourself with Economic Statistics so that you can put that Statistics to your Essay and Optional Paper answer.


-Follow PIB , which authentic source of Govt. of India.


For General Studies – I & General Studies – II:


– Not Much Special Preparation is needed if you are following the preparations for Essay. Above mentioned for Essay will cover Your General studies Papers.


– Here NCERTs will help you for your General Studies paper. If you were studying NCERTs for Prelims Paper – I then it will be easy for you to revised them before Main Examinations.
